Dermot has been involved with residential property since starting his first construction company in 1971. Following on from obtaining a Higher National Diploma in valuation and estate management, and housing studies at the North east Wales institute. Dermot completed a professional Bachelor of Science degree from Leeds University obtaining a distinction in land law and legal studies, with subsequent BSc in Valuation and estate development. Elected to full membership of the Association of valuers and auctioneers in 1997, subsequently elected to Fellowship of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2000.

Dermot is a General Practice Chartered Surveyor with excess of 10 years Local Government experience. Hands on, Dermot is still a practicing residential specialist.
